Today is College Colors Day, so I expect you’ll all be wearing your school Retro Brand colors in support of your team just like Retro Brand fanatic Chad Ballinger (L). I’ll also expect you to leave a comment at the end of this post as your official entry for week #1 in the 3rd annual Retro Brand “High-5″ College Football contest. You want to win a FREE Retro Brand shirt, right? Here’s how….
1) Every week I will preview 5 College Football Match-ups for the upcoming weekend and offer my expertise, or more commonly lack thereof, as to who will win & why, along with a predicted final score.
2) Contestants will enter their picks for the same 5 games in the comment section at the end of this post, and the person that beats me and/or the person who picks the most games correctly (no point spreads, straight up wins and losses) will win a FREE Original Retro Brand t-shirt of their choice from originalretrobrand.com In the event of a tie, we will have a drawing to determine the final winner. In the rare event I win, nobody gets nuthin’! Comments must be posted no later than kickoff of the first scheduled game which is 9/1/12 @7pm EST to be counted! ***ONLY ONE ENTRY PER CUSTOMER***
3) I will announce the winner on this blog and our Facebook page the following week – Usually Wednesday or Thursday – Then we’ll do it again. NOW TO THE GAMES FOR WEEK # 1!
GAME 1: # 14 Clemson Tigers vs. Auburn Tigers – Clemson needs to put that 70-33 Orange Bowl thumping to West Virginia last year behind them. An opening win in Atlanta against an SEC team should do the trick. Clemson – 35, Auburn – 21.
GAME 2: Kentucky Wildcats vs. # 25 Louisville Cardinals – The battle for the Governor’s Cup! Alright, it’s not that exciting, but both of these clubs have alot of heart. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the Cardinals have alot more talent. Louisville – 38, Kentucky – 17.
GAME 3: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. # 16 Virginia Tech Hokies – The winner of this Coastal division matchup has gone on to to play in the ACC title game for the past 7 years running. I don’t think this year will be any different and it’s Va-Tech who’ll be representin’ – Hokie QB Logan Thomas is a beast. Virginia Tech – 33, Georgia Tech – 20.
GAME 4: SMU Mustangs vs. Baylor Bears – SMU surprised a bunch of folk last year, and 2011 Conference USA leading rusher Zach Line returns to go for 3rd straight 1,000 yd campaign. They do lose QB J.J McDermott to the NFL Draft. You know who’s missing from Baylor, and it won’t matter. RGIII-less Bears win this early in-state battle. Baylor – 42, SMU – 24.
UPSET SPECIAL: # 2 Alabama Crimson Tide vs. # 8 Michigan Wolverines – If you’ve played “High-5″ for the past 2 years, you’re very aware of my bad choices on the regular. I’m not going back to check my record. I know, and you know it’s bad. Mainly because I go with at least one crazy upset (sometimes two or three) every week. So instead of calling it “GAME 5″, we’ll just go with UPSET SPECIAL from now on, and the Cowboy Classic in Dallas tomorrow will mark a Michigan chink in the SEC armor in the defense of 6 straight National Championships. Not saying they won’t keep the streak alive as I’m openly pulling for my Georgia Bulldogs to get that lucky # 7, but it will be the toughest test in a long time. Michigan – 24, Alabama – 23.
Week # 1 and done. Let’s see what you got. Football is finally here. Thank you God!
