WIN A $50 ORIGINAL RETRO BRAND GIFT CARD. ENTER THE “WHAT’S YOUR COLLEGE KNOWLEDGE?” BASKETBALL CONTEST – IT'S WEEK 2!
Posted on 01/23/2012 by andy | 36 comment(s)
Another season of the "What's your College Knowledge?" basketball contest is officially underway, with week # 1 in the books. What's more shocking? The FSU Seminoles ending the DUKE Blue Devils 45 game home winning streak, or yours truly opening with a 1-4 record? Yeah, that's an easy one (For the sake of rationalization, let the record show 3 of those 4 losses were by 1 measly point, arghhhh!).
One person who fared as well as the Noles was Jeremy Cowan. He was the only entry to win all 5 games, and thus he is the winner of the $50 Original Retro Brand Gift Card. Jeremy is a huge UNLV fan and requested we get them in the contest. We will soon Jeremy and Congrats again!
Before we get into the 5 games for week # 2, here are the rules for those entering the contest for the first time:
1) Every Monday, I will post my 5 top college basketball games of the week and give you my predicted winners and why.
2) You will enter your picks for the same games (no point spreads; straight up wins & losses) in the “leave a reply/Comment” section at the end of this post no later than tip-off time for the first scheduled game. ****ONE ENTRY PER PERSON ONLY!!****
3) Each following Monday I will announce which person picked the most winners, and that person will win a $50 Original Retro Brand Gift Card! In the event of a tie, all of the entries will be entered into a drawing to determine a winner. It’s FREE, FUN, and that simple!
We’ll run this contest right up until the opening round for March Madness. At that time we’ll step up our game with our 2nd annual “Bracket Ballers Challenge,” in which you’ll get the opportunity to test your picking prowess for the full bracket of 68 – $700 worth of Original Retro Brand gear will be up for grabs! NOW TO THE GAMES FOR WEEK # 2!
GAME 1: 1/26 - # 16 Indiana (16-4) @ # 25 Wisconsin (16-5): 4 of the 5 losses the Badgers have suffered this season have been at the hands of ranked teams. They put an end to that with an impressive road win against a strong Fighting Illini last night. The Hoosiers had better luck with ranked teams (3 victories including early season stunner over then ranked # 1 Kentucky), but suffered a 3 game skid before getting back in the win column over Penn State last night as well. What does all this mean? Badgers have the "Mo" and The Grateful Red student cheering section on their side. BADGERS - 66, HOOSIERS - 60.
GAME 2: 1/26 - North Carolina State (15-5) @ # 7 University of North Carolina (16-3): The Wolfpack have put a solid season together behind the consistent play of Junior Forward Scott Wood. Had it not been for the UNC debacle against FSU, this would have been a total no brainer pick. # 1 in points per games & rebounds per game is hard to ignore. Harrison Barnes AND John Henson are arguably the best players in the country. Let's just call it a plain no brainer pick (enjoy the "gimme"). TAR HEELS - 80, WOLFPACK - 70.
GAME 3: 1/27 - Harvard (16-2) @ Yale (12-4): I love a good old fashioned Ivy league rivalry, don't you? Hey, the Crimson have beaten that same FSU team that thumped Carolina and DUKE this year for crying out loud! Yale just swept Brown in a home and home, but unfortunately they don't get to play Brown a third straight time. CRIMSON - 55, BULLDOGS - 50.
GAME 4: 1/28 - # 18 Mississippi State (16-4) @ # 13 Florida (15-4): The Bulldogs put me in my place by offing Vandy last week (in OT) and I should not have underestimated them. BUT, I like the Rowdy Reptiles and the all around game of Kenny Boynton and the team scoring average of 82 per. GATORS - 82, BULLDOGS - 75.
GAME 5: 1/28 - # 21 St. Mary's (19-2) @ BYU (17-5): Welcome to West Coast Conference Basketball BYU! Kind of... The first intro was against the Gael's and the welcoming wasn't very warm - St. Mary's easily handled the newcomers 98-82. The Cougs have since won 6 of 7 in conference. Will they get revenge on their home court? SMC is too strong, and will remain unbeaten in the WCC. GAEL'S - 78, COUGARS - 65.
You'd think with all the damage FSU has done to the rankings, we'd feature them in our contest, right? Just waiting for a better match-up on the schedule, so they will definitely be in next week (2/4 vs. # 21 Virginia). That's it for now, so LET'S SEE THOSE PICKS AND GOOD LUCK!
