All is right in the world again…. My Dawgs end their 3 year losing streak to the Gamecocks, and Aaron Murray didn’t get mangled by Jadeveon Clowney. Seemed like 99.9% of our entries from last week picked the Gators over Miami and the Bearcats over the Fighting Illini which didn’t work out so much. Rob Tang from Long Island City, NY, wins the FREE Retro Brand t-shirt as he turned out to be the other .1% and ended up as our only entry to go 5-0. Nice work and congrats Mr. Tang!
Welcome to week # 3 of our “High-Five” College Football contest. For those of you checking us out for the first time, you already know I’m an unapologetic Georgia Bulldog fan so feel free to bash when necessary. But before doing so, you’ll need to check out our rules to the game. They’re a cinch and here they are:
1) I will preview 5 College Football Match-ups for the upcoming weekend and offer my expertise, or more commonly lack thereof, as to who will win & why, along with a predicted final score. Sometimes I’ll throw in an extra game which is usually my upset special so keep your eyes open!
2) Contestants will enter their winning picks for the same 5 (or 6) games by clicking them into the comment section of this post. The person that beats me and/or the person who picks the most games correctly (no point spreads, straight up wins and losses) will win a FREE Retro Brand vintage t-shirt of their choice from originalretrobrand.com In the event of a tie, we will have a drawing to determine the final winner (this happens quite a bit so prepare yourself). In the rare event that I win, nobody gets nuthin’! J
Comments must be posted no later than kickoff of the first scheduled game to be counted! UCLA – NEBRASKA would be that game for this week and it begins at Noon est on Saturday 9/14/13. ***ONLY ONE ENTRY PER CUSTOMER***
3) I will announce the winner on this blog the following week (usually Wednesday’s). Now to the games for Week #3….
Game 1: #16 UCLA (1-0) @ #23 Nebraska (2-0) – Stupid reason I’m going against UCLA? I’m tired of Jim Mora Jr. and his ridiculous rants. He did it when he coached the Falcons, and he’s still doing it. Good reason I’m going against UCLA? Nebraska senior QB Taylor Martinez on home field. Always liked him, still do. Guy runs like a madman and can throw too. Cornhuskers – 37, Bruins – 28.
Game 2: Virginia Tech (1-1) @ East Carolina (2-0) – Another senior QB I’ve pulled for over the past few years has been VT’s Logan Thomas. Doppelganger of Cam Newton …at least in physical appearances. Unfortunately he just hasn’t put up the same numbers or lived up to the potential he had coming in after his very productive sophomore campaign. Maybe he’ll come into his own against the Pirates? Maybe, but in honor of “National Talk like a Pirate Day,” looming next week (9/19 matey), I’m using another stupid reason for a pick. Purple and Gold by a field goal for the upset. Pirates – 33, Hokies – 30
Game 3: #1 Alabama (1-0) @ #6 Texas A&M (2-0) – Saban has had this date circled on his calendar since the clock ran out against Johnny Football in Tuscaloosa last year. Manzeil may be an annoying, arrogant, obnoxious, etc., but he has the goods to deliver a second straight win over the Tide and WILL. 12th man will definitely be a factor – not a stupid reason to pick A&M. Yeah, I’m picking the Aggies! Aggies – 34, Crimson Tide – 24.
Game 4: #25 Ole Miss (2-0) @ Texas (1-1) – Boy oh boy, even this Bulldog is taking pity on the Rebs. 2-0 is nice at the moment, but now they have to go face an ornery Texas team in Austin who got whacked by BYU last week, then go on the road against #1 BAMA, a much improved Auburn, and then back home to face #6 Texas A&M and #8 LSU! Can you say 2-5? No, let’s say 3-4 because they’re going to lay some SEC Hotty Totty on Bevo and friends. Sorry Mack. Rebels – 32, Longhorns – 14.
Game 5: #20 Wisconsin (2-0) @ Arizona State (1-0) – 93 to 0. That is the combined score of Wisconsin’s first two victories. Sure, UMASS & Tennessee Tech aren’t what Buckingham Badger is used to seeing in the BIG Ten, but the numbers are impressive none the less. Sparky pitchforked a 55-0 shut out over Sacramento State in their only game so you have the top 2 ranked defenses in the country going head to head! Stupid reason I’m going with Wisky (actually not that stupid)? My boss is an Arizona Wildcat. He dislikes Arizona State very much, therefore I do as well. Beefy Bucky boys beat the heat. Badgers – 40, Sun Devils – 21.
That’s it for this week. My 2-week record stands at 6-5. Mediocre as usual. Before I exit, just want to remind you to tune in to the nationally syndicated Lex & Terry Radio Show every Friday morning around 8:30 eastern to hear me go head to head live with the hosts for their own version of football picks. You can email them your name & address and be eligible to win a $200 Retro Brand Gift Card. After you click the Lex & Terry link above, go to the ‘media’ tab on their site and click “listen live,” and you’re in….
NOW LET’S SEE YOUR PICKS & GOOD LUCK!!
